Overview

Data Migration Services

MBICT scopes data migration for businesses nationwide, including agreed transfers between business systems, spreadsheets and databases. Discovery identifies source ownership, destination requirements, record volumes, data quality and permitted access. We agree mapping rules, sample imports, reconciliation and cutover responsibilities before production changes. A successful transfer is not evidence that every relationship, attachment or business total is correct; those checks need explicit scope. Migration tools, storage, source-system charges and substantial cleansing are quoted separately. Existing data is not removed without authorised agreement.

Documented mapping

Define destination fields, identifiers, formats and how exceptions will be handled.

Business validation

Check record relationships and agreed totals, not only whether an import completes.

Controlled cutover

Specify who can approve the transition and what would trigger a stop or rollback.

Traceable handover

Record unresolved exceptions, access ownership and retained-source arrangements.

Buyer’s guide · Serving South Africa

Agree what correct data means before moving it

A reliable migration plan defines the expected result before the import starts. Your business owners should approve mappings, reconciliation rules and the acceptance evidence they need.

Make transformation rules explicit

Decide how identifiers, duplicate records, dates, currencies and missing values will be treated. Do not silently replace an unknown value with a plausible guess. Keep an exception list and agree who can resolve each issue.

Validate beyond record counts

Equal counts do not establish that the records are correct. Test parent-child relationships, representative attachments and key totals where relevant. Validation itself requires time and resources; tool support varies by source and destination.

Plan the point of no return

Define the write-freeze or synchronisation approach, final approval and rollback triggers. Keep source-retention arrangements in writing. Rollback may be complicated once new records are created in the target, so rehearse the procedure instead of treating it as a single button.

What to include in your project brief

  • Source and destination systems with authorised access owners
  • Record counts, formats, volumes and known quality issues
  • Mapping rules and business acceptance tests
  • Cutover window, recovery approach and source retention

Data Migration Services: common questions

Is data cleansing included in a migration?

Only if it is explicitly scoped. Duplicate resolution, incomplete records and inconsistent formats can require substantial business decisions and additional work.

Can a migration be guaranteed to have no downtime?

No universal promise is appropriate. The source, destination, synchronisation method and final cutover determine interruption risk. Agree the acceptable window and contingency plan.

What proves that the migration is complete?

Completion should be supported by the agreed reconciliation, application checks, resolved or accepted exceptions and business-owner sign-off—not merely an import-success message.
