A mailbox move is only one part of a working business environment. Your proposal should identify which data moves, which permissions are recreated and which user devices need attention.
Choose the method from the source
Migration capability depends on the source and supported method. Microsoft documents that IMAP moves email but not contacts, calendar items or tasks. Confirm the plan for those items rather than assuming that a mailbox count describes the whole job.
Pilot representative users
Choose accounts that exercise shared access, older messages, mobile use and collaboration needs. Agree acceptance checks and staff instructions before cutover. Keep a record of exclusions and unresolved items so a partial migration is not mistaken for completion.
Make ongoing ownership explicit
Confirm who holds administrative access, manages licences, handles joiners and leavers and supports staff after handover. A migration project is not an ongoing managed IT agreement or a substitute for a separately agreed recovery plan.
